Here is my guess. SMB version 1 browsing has been disabled on Mint 20 versus 19 so the share is not displayed automatically in your file browser's network window. You can connect to the server in the browser using the URL smb://IP_address/share_name

Indeed, but the OP won't say how they're trying to connect. And based on the routers documentation, you have to actually go into the web interface (which the OP doesn't acknowledge), and actually mount the device first.

Still not sure why plugging the USB stick into their PC directly is a bad thing.

Ah, quite right; I missed that post. Still, we are five years and four threads into this, and still don't know what they're trying to do, with what program. As you said, putting smb:\\--- into a file manager will work and is amply documented. Even more telling is the fact it's documented on the BT5 user manual, that has that exact command string.
