Just built LMDE 4 - how do you access the single click settings for desktop icons? LMDE uses Cinnamon.
Not sure I'm going to stick with it, probably going back to Mint 20 xfce!
IIRC, it's controlled by the file manager (Nemo) and is in the preferences. I don't have a Cinnamon install handy, but if memory serves, it's under a section called 'behavior'. Either way, it's in the file manager. That much I'm pretty sure of.

You're partially correct, you can set single click via the file manager but that affects every file and folder, not just the desktop folder content.
Now if I could limit single click to he desktop folder only that would be fine.
IIRC, it doesn't have that much fidelity. It's one or the other. It treats the desktop as it treats any other folder. So, one setting is for everything.
BUT... I haven't used it in a while, so I could be mistaken.
If you do find it, I'd be interested in knowing what it was. If Nemo still has it, there was a "Ignore per-folder view preferences" option and *maybe* you can set it through that?
I tried to ignore per-folder preferences but it doesn't work as I expected.
Also LMDE on my XEON machine didn't behave that well, wouldn't shutdown so after a bit of fiddling and tweaking I've opted for Mint 20
Yeah, it's as I recall and doesn't have that much fidelity. I didn't think it did. It is everything is single click or everything is double click. There's no leeway.
I used Cinnamon for about a year, but grew weary of it and headed back to my LXDE. It's not fancy, but it works and gets out of my way.
