I've previously been able to run Mint 19.3 (32bit) on my Acer AspireOne netbook (Intel Atom processor) however I made the mistake of attempting to install Windows 10 (32bit) on it.
I've since completely wiped the drive and have attempted reinstall of 19.3 but it always freezes at the end of install after I've selected the option to restart.
When I force my netbook to power off then power on again I have gotten a grub prompt but Linux will not load after I select any option
Am I doing something wrong? Is there a reason 19.3 worked before and will not now?
okay, so I tried reinstalling grub using Boot Repair during a Live session however; it doesn't seem to take hold.
the boot menu does appear but when I select a distribution from the list none of them boot. I've even tried the installer over again
I have even replaced the hard drive (with a new solid state) but the netbook will neither power off or complete restart through menus
I can only turn off the device by holding down the power button
Unfortunately I’ve tried those other distros and their installers won’t load past the initial menus.
This netbook is at least 10 years old with an Intel Atom processor and only 1gb RAM
It doesn't seem to matter what I do. I've installed a new (500gb) solid state drive and doubled (went from 1g - 2gb RAM)
and the only installer that will run is the one for 32bit Linux Mint 19.3 it completes and tells me to remove the install medium, but when I do the terminal window hangs. It doesn't reboot.
And, no matter how many times I boot the live disk and run Boot Repair it seems that the bootloader still does not point to the installed image. I can select Linux Mint from the menu but I just get a flashing cursor after with no error
In case I haven't mentioned, this is on an Acer AspireOne Netbook (D257)
It's so frustrating because 19.3 was working before on this very machine
Since you have used Boot Repair more than once, I'm wondering why you have not followed the instructions on their page and used the Create BootInfo Summary option and posted the link to that output here so members can view and hopefully help you?
