Linux Mint 17.1 Cinnamon hangs when booting DVD and after login sometimes
I just tried updating an Atom system from Salix to Mint, and when I boot the disk regularly it just hangs at the white Linux Mint logo screen. In compatibility mode it boots and installs, but then when I reboot it may or may not login properly. It will sometimes hang again after logging in at the same white Linux Mint logo screen. I'm gonna try the XFCE version and see what happens.
Try Mint Debian, I've had the same experience with ATOM systems and "native" MINT. For some incredible reason Ubuntu does work by the way, but the MINT based off of Ubuntu didn't. I didn't fuss over it, I tried Mint Debian and it worked fine. I'm using the stable 17 (I believe) on an Acer Veritron.
Mint XFCE seems to boot and install fine. I'm thinking Cinnamon is to blame. I booted the Cinnamon disk in compatibility mode and there were no errors before starting Cinnamon.
ATOM's have a unique video interface, Ubuntu happened to be the first distro that used what was called the Poulsbo driver, but they've updated the driver to something else, and then promptly dropped support for it because they've improved to different chips or something. Or they may have mated with a different bridge technology to alter the video completely, I haven't tried to create any new distros for current ATOMs in a few years, one time was bad enough!
