Errors while updating Linux Mint 16

Hi,

I have Linux Mint 16 Petra installed (kernell linux 3.11.0-12-generic i686)

I tried to update Linux by using the button bootom right. When it was almost finished I got a list of errors:

Failed to fetch http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/di...-i386/Packages 404 Not Found [IP: 91.189.91.24 80]

Some index files failed to download. They have been ignored, or old ones used instead.

Refresh again gives the same list of errors AND it show a message: your system is up to date. For some time the button is checked green but later show the red cross indicating I need to update.

Any ideas on what to do next?

KR, Leo

P.S. I tried to install the solfege-package but after some time the process stopped: The package solfege could not be installed. Please check your connection to the internet.
Since I see in the errors some packages were not fetched, could this (failed install of solfege) be caused by the failed update as well?

I think you're on the wrong forum

But based on the errors, it seems either your internet is down or the page you were reaching is no longer there.

Based on page from a quick Google search, it seems that you are running an older version that is EOL.

Hi bassmadrigal,

Yes I can see now I am on the wrong forum. Hopefully the administrator can take this post to the right place.

Do I understand well that I have to upgrade to/install Mint 17 or higher?

In addition to the above, maybe change your sources to point to: http://old-releases.ubuntu.com instead of security and archive urls and run an upgrade? The result should then be a fully upgraded, albeit unsupported, system. You would then need to see about upgrading to a new supported release.

The link I provided seemed to imply you can use a sed commmand to replace the server to the correct one housing the updates. Then, as cynwulf mentioned, you can make sure you are running the latest version of your software, although, you won't get any additional updates.

Unless there's something holding you back, it'd probably be worth upgrading to the latest Mint release or at least the latest one that provides LTS (long term support). I'm not familiar enough with Mint versions to be able to suggest which method would be best for you.

This is the nicest response to a forum question in the wrong forum that I've ever seen.

Bravo!
