Cinnamon Mint, workspaces, direct mapping, and super key

I just want to be able to have 8 or 9 workspaces (i.e. virtual desktops), and be able to jump between them with "super-key"+"1-9". But I can't. I can use the ctrl+alt and up, down, right, left arrow keys. The default combo's to navigate through the workspaces, but anything involving the super key either (a) gives an error message / is not allowed or (b) has unexpected behavior / is broken.

An example of "a" is: super+any number just throws a warning that the key will be unusable to type with if I select it. And also I'll just point out that these combos have no default action associated with them, so they should be available.

An example of "b" is: if I try for e.g. super+shift+numbers, they combo will just just up as "L" and also, will not work. So, super+shift+1 = "L", super+shift+2 = "L", and will steal the combo from super+shift+1, etc...

I've searched, numerous times, and I don't see any information mentioning the super key, and it being special, or problematic, or reserved. Same goes for the topic, in general, of Mint, Cinnamon, and direct mappings for workspaces. WhAT AM i MISSING HERE? Thanks.

oh yeah. My keyboard is some crappy $40 logi wireless thing, I got after I broke a nice wired one. If that possibly has something to do with it, I'm not sure.

Just as an update, to close this thing out: I never was able to figure out the situation with the super key, but I ended up using Ctrl+1, Ctrl+2 ... ...Ctrl+9 to jump between 9 different workspaces. And that has been great. So I consider this 'solved', not the mystery, but the quest for a desired outcome. Cheers
