Zorin OS 8 hdmi tv issues

Hi everyone.

I'm a somewhat new Linux user and have been having some issues with Zorin that I have not had with my previous install of Mint or Windows 8.

Everything installed for Zorin, but when I hook my tv to the computer through hdmi while it is on,the main screen goes white/ random colors and essentially I can't do anything except force shutdown. When I have the cable hooked up before the laptop starts up it works until the desktop shows up then it is like the desktop freezes and only the mouse can move. Sometimes the desktop is all black or white. Only can force shutdown.

When it is not connected to the tv, the computer works flawlessy.

My specs are

Hp envy dv6
AMD A8-4500m APU with Radeon HD graphics x 4
6gb of RAM

Any help would be highly appreciated. I've been looking all over google with no luck. I really need to have my tv hooked up.

My hdmi port. Not HP. Not ZorinOS. Is controlled by my Ctrl+F5 key.

Since Zorin is Ubuntu based

http://www.googlubuntu.com/

Sorry but that is the best I can do for you before I go to bed.

Best you search with your model laptop number and hdmi in the ubuntu search box.

Edit. If you get a male vga to male vga cable, It should work out of the box then. You will need to use your headphone jack with a external speaker for sound though,
