I am a novice to Linux installations. I tried to install Linux on my Laptop HP Compaq nx6120 and as it did not identify the monitor. I have to install in text mode. Now I installed new Xwindows driver from XFree86.org. The buld says installation is complaete. but the startx does not dispaly the GUI properly.
My chip set is Intel Media Accelerator 900/915GM chip set.
Screen resolution is 1400*1050
Text installation tells me
Red Hat Linux AS Release 3
Kernel 2.4.21-32.EL on an i686.
rpm -q XFree86 says
XFree 4.3.0-81.
I tried with 855Resolutions provided online, but of no help. I think my chip set is not identified. Can some boody help me in installing proper video driver??
