vga+788 degradeing

Hi all, I am running alpha 3 of ubuntu on an eepc901. After 1 of the upgrades I am now getting the above message and I am unable to get a signon page. Just a black screen with a curser top left corner. Pressing keys just gives random letter, symbols and numbers. Anyway of fixing this problem.

Thanks in advance

Maybe it's a problem with X being updated. Only thing I can suggest. Maybe some config files for it are corrupted.
