USB Question

I have read that the 2.4.21 kernel patch will fix the usb problems on my Thinkpad 1161-43U. I am currently running 2.4.20 and was wondering if the 2.4.35 kernel would include all of the fixes from all earlier kernels and patches??? I guess I was thinking that if I have to upgrade I might as well get the newest 2.4 kernel.

Please help quickly. I am fixing it so my wifi works in linux.

Thank You,
Scott

Why not upgrade to 2.6 kernel? That will probably fix your problems.

If the patch is applied to that kernel then it should stay in the tree unless removed later.

Thank you for the replies. I installed the 2.4.35.1 Kernel and it fixed the problem. I am installing the 2.6 kernel also but I don't entirely trust it yet and I wanted a fully functional slimmed down 2.4 kernel as a backup.

When you compile the 2.6 kernel it differs a bit in commands used.
2.6 kernel
make xconfig ( or your choice )
make ( builds kernel and modules in one command )
make modules_install ( install modules to /lib/modules
make install ( add to /boot, generate initrd, add to grub and lilo I think. )
