USB boot error - update to micocode

I've have a Lenovo ThinkPad W550S that will not boot into Windows, even toast in Safe mode. I created a Linux USB boot to try and get stuff off the hard drive. The USB boot using ubuntu-18.04-desktop-amd64.iso. When laptop boots I get the following error
[Firmware Bug] TSC_Deadline disable due to Errata; please update microcode to version: 0x25 (or later)

Any ideas if possible to get past this error?

Thanks,

Rick

Hello and welcome to LQ.

I think I'd try a different distro or older ubuntu. The fix seems to be to load the new microcode but you can't do it. I guess it may be possible to use a boot time option to get past it also but you may have to do more work later depending on how you booted exactly.

Recommend an ISO

I noticed the ISO I tried is ubuntu-18.04-desktop-amd64.iso

I assume this is for a amd CPU. My laptop is a Core i7-5500U

What ISO should I use to try and boot from a USB?

Thanks,

Rick

amd64 is a class of processors, a nod to AMD where the prior i386 line is nod to intel.
