Question USB 2.00 on Acer Aspire 1600

Hi guys,
since I've installed College linux (kernel 2.4.8) on my notebook, my four USB 2.00 have never been recognized by the system. The X-Server control center have a directory for USB, but It's empty. I think it can be a problem of IRQ configuration, or I have not the drivers for These services...
May you help me?
