Suddenly, 2012 Samsung laptop will not boot to BIOS!

Guys & Gals:

This morning, I went into the BIOS of my Samsung laptop to change the boot order; I saved the change, then restarted my laptop.

The laptop's OS works fine; however, now, it won't let me access the BIOS!

What did I do, and how can I fix it?

Thanks!

Hmmm... very interesting. rokytnji. I got the same advice from a local computer shop owner a local computer shop-owner this afternoon; he's confident that he can do it tomorrow morning - for $20 (wish I had a detached USB keyboard laying around).

Thanks for the tip, rokytnji.

FenderGuy,

Before you part with the $20, try:

1. Tapping Del instead of F2, or

2. Press the Fn key at the same time as tapping F2.

I dropped off my laptop this morning and they said it would be a few hours before they could get to it. Will pick it up and try your recommended solution.

Thanks.

Or you can go to your local thrift store and pick one up for maybe $5. Or borrow one from a friend for a few minutes.

Exactly! Unfortunately, it's on the bench now, and he said it would cost $20-50 to fix it!

If it's not ready before closing time, I'm going to pick it up and try your suggestions.

Thank you so much.

I have a Samsung NP350E7C A05-UK(?) or something i3 based, 2,4Ghz, 6G of ram. On mine F2, F9 & f10 all did something, and maybe F1 too. I don't remember. Manufactured 2012.
  • F1 or Delete brought up the BIOS.
  • F2 brought up UEFI or some windows thing IIRC.
  • F9 was definitely an appeal to M$ to save your a** which always failed. (Restore?)
  • F10 was the 'Boot from........" menu.

With all of them, you pressed them on power-up and watch for the 'Please wait...' in the bottom right corner.

One other thing. Junk the spinning rust drive, and get yourself an SSD. You'll never look back.

I did that several years ago, when I installed a WD 500GB SSD.

Maybe something like fast boot is activated?
Sometimes it makes a difference if you cold boot, instead of hot boot.

Or:
Upon powering on the laptop, press F10
Select the option to modify the BIOS settings
Go to the Boot Options screen
Set Secure Boot to Disabled
