Sticking Linux in a Car :)
My HP tx2117cl has fallen (no really,... fallen) under the weather and the case is starting to fall apart from my constant abuse. She's been good to me so far, but instead of repairs, I think it's time for a new laptop.
My plan is to take my laptop out of it's case and mount it in the dash of my computer so I can use it as a multimedia/navigation system.
the problem is that I don't want to sit and wait for 30 seconds for the thing to boot before I can pull off. I wont always need navigation, so I know that can take a back seat until it's fully booted.
great thing is that the laptop is touchscreen (or tablet pen). so I'd like a gui with bigger buttons that I can press like a normal touch screen.
I guess here's my requirements:
-<5sec boot time (I can take <10, it can be from hibernating to)
-touch screen
-music and movie playback
-GPS navigation
-internet browsing
-I know it's a pain in the butt to get an HP with broadcom card to run with linux (tried with debian, fedora, and ubuntu) but if I could get wi-fi to work that'd be a plus, but I'd most likely just use a 3G usb network usb anyway)
I'm thinking about switching out the HDD on this for a SDD to make it a little faster if need be.
is there any distro that could do this?
