I am running SuSE 9.1 on a laptop
Specs:
Processor - Pentium 4 2.8 GHz
Video - ATI Mobility Radeon 9000
Current Resolution - 1280x1024
The display on the laptop works fine...when I plug
a my monitor at work into the display it works fine
(ViewSonic Brand)...but when I plug my monitor at
home into the laptop my desktop scrolls in every
direction (The screen is larger than the actual
monitor size).
How do I fix this problem...?
I've tried moding the XF86config file...using Yast to
change the display settings...nothing works!!!
I've made sure the virtual display is disabled.
Also, the laptop screen still works fine...and both work
fine running up through the startup display.
I have the same card. When I set the card to maximum resolution in windows I have to scroll to see the whole screen. I think it's a feature of the card, to allow older monitors to run higher resolutions.
I would understand if the resolution I am trying to use
was too large for the screen to handle but it's not.
In windows I can get the screen resolution up to 1600x1200
I keep the resolution at 1280x1024 as my preference.
But when I try to use 1280x1024 in linux I get the scrolling.
The only resolution that works is 800x600 but that resolution
is terrible. The monitor is not old either...I just purchased it
like 3 months ago.
However, I don't want to change the resolution.
I want to use 1280x1024...I know it works with
windows and thus the resolution/monitor combination
also works...but I can't get Linux to work at any
resolution higher than 800x600.
And again, when I try to use my other external
monitor at work (19in ViewSonic E90fb) it works fine
the resolution of 1280x1024 works great...but
when I try to use my monitor at home (19in Samsung
SyncMaster) it does not work...the screen scrolls.
