Sony Vaio battery problem.

Should a Sony Vaio laptop run on AC power with the battery removed?
This one will not - model PCG-K35
The battery charges when the laptop is off.
The battery discharges when the laptop is on even when plugged into AC power.

Any ideas what is wrong?

Check the website below: It might be a small hardware failure.
