I'm using kubuntu 11.10 on a sony vaio laptop with a NVIDIA Geforce 410M, 295.20 graphic drivers and vdpau on sm player. i get tearing in .avi files but not in HD mkv's. Sync to VBlack is activated in nvidia settings. any solution?

"ffh264vdpa u" ? Whats up with that space before the u?
Disable graphics effects and see if that helps. I had many issues related to compositing effects and vdpau.
What codecs do those avis use? I had success with h264 and vdpau but playing random avis was hit and miss (probably software decoding is used in certain cases).
