Smoothwall 2.0 on a Toshiba Tecra 8000

Hi,

Apologies if this is not in the correct forum -wasn't sure whether it should go here or in one for hardware.

I have a problem installing Smoothwall 2.0 on my Toshiba Tecra 8000 laptop.

The problem is that the distribution I have downloaded from Smoothwall.org's website won't boot in this laptop. However, it will boot in other PC's -I've tried it on two others and there are no probs here. The laptop also happily boots other bootable CD's, including a Windows 2000 boot CD, a Windows 98 boot CD and a Mandrake and a Gentoo boot CD. These other linux distributions were downloaded as ISO's from the relevant websites and burnt using Nero.

I've checked the obvious, such as making sure that the BIOS is set to boot from a CD and that the drive bay is locked on the laptop.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

I had this problem on an old pc .

You should be able to create a boot floppy disk from the smoothwall cd ..

look under the dosutils directory and run a program called "RawWrite"
Then browse to your images folder and select your boot image ..

Hope this is of some help

Toshiba Tecra

To boot into bios, try holding down the Esc key when the Toshiba splash screen comes up right after you turn on the computer.

This thread is getting a bit away from true Linux security issues, moving it to the Linux - Laptop forum to get exposure with the laptop gurus.
