SiS650 will not go 1024x768

800x600 is driving me NUTS!!

I'm using Fedora 3 with Gnome and, the drivers found at
winischhofer.at/linuxsisvga.shtml (they wouldn't let me post the link)

The lappy originally came with windows2000 then i had slack installed before at 1024x768, also knoppix, knoppix std, whoppix, and whax all are able to hit 1024x768. so why can't fedora?! i've been toying with this for awhile now i figure i should come to the pros. any help is ridiculously appreciated. i could have missed some stuff with the driver options (seeing as the only one i installed was the sisctrl)

try reducing the bit depth to 16 bit in your xorg.conf right now the default depth must be 24.....

pull it down to 16

I've tried doing just that. and it didn't work. maybe there's something i'm missing. i've just been restarting the computer in hopes that it worked. i'm thinking maybe there's something i've been missing all along. i'm using the precompiled module and i notice no difference. i got sisctrl compiled and installed, and it only picks on 800x600 as well.

in xorg.conf i have:
Code:
Section "Device"
	Identifier "Videocard0"
	Driver "sis"
	VendorName "Videocard vendor"
	BoardName "SiS 650"
	Option "EnableSiSCtrl" "yes"

EndSection

Section "Screen"
	Identifier "Screen0"
	Device "Videocard0"
	Monitor "Monitor0"
	DefaultDepth 16
	SubSection "Display"
		Viewport 0 0
		Depth 16
		Modes "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480"
	EndSubSection
	SubSection "Display"
		Viewport 0 0
		Depth 16
		Modes "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480"
	EndSubSection
EndSection
I manually edited in "1024x768" in the Modes
and changed Depth to 16 under defaultdepth, and the first "Display" subsection. i was assuming the subsection named the same was for 16, or 24 though. so my next restart fixes that back. there's an easier way to restart the x server i'm sure. but i'm too lazy to learn at this early in the morning. i appreciate your replies.
