RH9.0 Dell D505 855patch failure ...

Hello,
I have a Dell Latitude D505, it has the integrated graphics 855GM video chipset. My BIOS does not allow me to set video memory (Dell Grrrr!!!). I upgraded agpgart and installed the 885patch, unfortunately it fails with
"Could not calculate correct location to patch"

I am running kernel 2.4.20-8.
I am using XFree86 version 4.3.0.

Consequently I can only run VESA mode 1024x768 8 bit unaccelerated graphics ...

I tried forcing the loading of i810, i830 and agpgart modules via modprobe prior to executing 855patch but I had the same problem.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix the problem. I had tried the intel driver download, but this caused Xwindows to fail to start. Obviously I may have made an error somewhere as others seem to have had some succes with various Dell Inspiron/Latitudes having similar configurations. I'd appreciate any pointers.

Cheers,

Andy

Hello!
I have a Sony Vaio TR3A that uses the intel 855GM.

I wrote Intel asking how I can have 1280x768 screen res. running Red Hat 9.0

This is the answer:

Dear Customer,

Thank you for contacting Intel(R) Technical Support.

Many resolutions, especially for non-Windows* operating systems, are enabled by
the video BIOS (VBIOS). Please update the BIOS for your laptop, as it will
include the latest VBIOS. Newer drivers may include more resolutions. However,
we cannot comment on unreleased products. I will send your request to the
engineering department.

We are unable to disclose any information on unreleased products, since the
product may change, making information given to you inaccurate.

Please do not hesitate to contact us again if you need further assistance.

Sincerely,

I hope this can help the experts to solve the problem... But what does this mean?
Could someone, please, tell me what I should do (in easy words). Thanks!
