powerbook g4


Hi!

does anyone know if it's possible to install linux on a powerbook g4??

and to configure its ati radeon 9000 for linux 3d support?

if possible, I'll say good bye to windows for ever!! :-)

The in-kernel drivers and XFree86 Drivers for the ATI9000 are alright, getting full 3d is a pain... and the direct from ATI drivers are a mess in comparison and not pre-compiled for PPC anyway, but Linux will run, and run well on that little monster, most notably YellowDog, and as Macs have a rather limited hardware list, you can go check their HCL, its quite thorough.

Hi!

I'm not really in the wolrd of macs... what's HCL?

Will I be able to build programs using opengl in mac linux??

Hardware Compatability List:

opengl, depends on the program... glut, yeah... should be able to, the big deal is just whether the video card can handle it, check out http://www.yellowdoglinux.com/products/ydl.shtml they're claiming full 3d support for the radeon series... should work.
