Power or thermal limit exceeded (installation problem)

I get about 3/4 through the installation of Ubuntu 10.10 along side my Windows 7 partition for a dual boot system and it will not continue. It will say "ready when you are..." and when you click that it drops down a terminal box with the message "power or thermal limit exceeded" it will not let me progress any further through the installation. I know my laptop isn't overheating I've tested and checked the temps. If you need anymore information let me know.

At the time power-management may not be installed, sit on a fan & it will make it thru the installation. Either that or try installing debian which is less resource hungry.

I'd think it is overheating.

Did you tweek any settings in bios? (laptops generally can't be tweeked)

How well does it run live cd's?

Can you consider using a more modern version of ubuntu?

Also consider a VM.

I downloaded and installed a different system image from Ubuntu's website and this install went flawlessly. I am now dual booting Win 7 and Ubuntu Linux on the same machine! I am quite happy. Thanks for the help anyways.
