Planning to use Puppy Linux as a guest in Virtualbox at a Toshiba laptop, but which one?
Already have downloaded Ubuntu Studio for a virtualbox installation but first want to do it with a Puppy. Given that this is a 4 GB RAM laptop I want to know of a stable and recent developed puppy that suits well this machine for a virtual environment like VirtualBox.
After thinking this with a colder mind I would like to try the best puppy that you have (stable) with the primary purpose of being used for mathematics and graphing. So, if you know a flavour of puppy directed in this direction "that" should be.
Because any math program you want. Can be loaded up as .sfs file <squashed file system> during bootup. If you learn the ropes. Puppy has it's own system of installing and running new programs. I like the .sfs system myself.
I suggest you join the forum, post in that thread I pointed to above. Mention what math programs you would like. LazyPuppy will probably package up a .sfs on request for what ever you wish.
Edit: I see Puppy 528 in your posting profile. So I feel like I am preaching to the choir a little.
You probably already know a lot of what I am saying.
Edit: Now that I thought of it. Might consider installing DebianDog and adding math stuff using it.
Need the following info: color of cables of 2 connectors at
top & down side of Dell monitor 1704FPTt (look through vents
at right-hand-side (viewing the screen) at the back).
I saw the 3 threads you provided but they contain a lot of info & I finished filling a little confused... If I'm not wrong you tend to suggest that a good choice for my purposes is using DebianDog & then, if needed, install any extra packages. Tell me if I'm wrong on this.
In relation to the monitor cables in my signature it's not VGA related, the cables are those two pairs that you might find close to the top/bottom edge of the screen which in my case are at the left side (viewing the screen).

No you are not wrong in that. I figure Debian Dog. Being semi compatible with Debian Jessie. Will have the Debian repos to help with the math programs you want to run is all. Also may be a little more familiar since you are a Ubuntu user also.
Lazy Puppy takes some getting used to, since it is a .sfs specific style of Puppy Distro.
I have not yet bothered to learn it yet. I have too many irons in the fire with my limited life span as it is.
I've chosen Slacko & installed as Guest in VirtualBox but its behavior is much less than acceptable; I'll take the time in the next weeks to try to tweek it to conform to a normal Puppy.
In the mean time, is there another more general Puppy (for browsing the web, seeing Youtube videos, hearing some webradio streams, etc.) that's current & stable like Puppy 528 was for me (while been frugally installed) but now for this laptop. In fact, I would like to know how hard it would be to multiboot this laptop? Any info regarding this computer that is needed for answering the previous question will be fetched and posted here as requested!
Thanks in advanced!
Edit: From all the methods regularly available to boot an OS in a laptop (VirtualBox, CD, USB stick & own partition at the HDD), which would be preferable if you want the highest performance?

Reason: Completeness of exposition of doubts...
