NIC on Dell inspiron 1100 problems

This is my problem. I installed Redhat 9 on my Dell Inspiron 1100. Everything works on it but my network card, which is a Broadcom 440x. I have both the tar and rpm drivers and tried to get them to compile but for some reason it wouldn't make the file bcm4400.o (the make file). I get an error message every time I type the command to make the file.
I have a feeling the dirvers are not very good and if I could find another source that could be another solution. Can anyone help me?
