Mandriva 2006 hangs with centrino

Hi,

I just got a new Toshiba Satellite A105 with a 2.0Ghz Pentium M (2Mb cache) The installation of Mandriva went just fine, and I can use it for a while until it hangs. I have observed that the CPU frequency stays always at 2Ghz, so I am guessing that it overheats and shuts down.

I was able to disable high CPU frequencies on the BIOS, so now the system is at least usable, but I would like to know how should I go about fixing the problem.

I tried Knoppix and it was hanging also. On the other hand, Fedora Core 5 Test 1 was doing fine if it wasn't because the network card was not identified.

Has anyone seen this problem before?

Thank

Joan

How's your ACPI setup? I have that same machine and have been having issues with ACPI in Gentoo. The livecd seems to kick and fan on and keep everything under wraps but once inside my environment It won't. I can't get the speedstep_centrino module to load either. Toshiba extras I can't get to work either. You??? If you "cat /proc/acpi/thermal_zone/THCR/temperature what does it give you? (I think THCR & THCL) When I do this it will kick on the fan. Weird.

Yes, I have figured that the fan will turn on if I poll the temperature manually. I use acpi -V, but I suspect that cat /proc/acpi/thermal_zone/*/temperature has the exact same effect. Having to do this manually is by no means something that I consider acceptable. I can't get the CPU scaling working, but that is lower on my priority.

I will keep on posting my findings here

You might want to check bug #21328 on the mandriva website, I can't post the direct link for some odd reason
