I have installed Mandrake 9.0 on Pavillion ze4400 (ze4430us) and i'll give some tips (i hope it helps you).
1.- Unpluged the LAN cable, it makes to HALT on the PCMCIA module
2.- Make the USB (on Bios) unable
3.- Make Mandrake to autoalocate the partitions, it will create 3
4.- Select all default for Video
5.- Once you boot, unable the PCMCIA service
6.- Boot again with the cable pluged
7.- If you have windows, make the partition FAT32 (use partition magic in case you have NTFS) you'll see the particion on /mnt/windows
8.- Download AMSN (messenger)
