mandrake 9.2 problem at installation with Hyundai M350 laptop

Hi,

I have bought a new laptop Hyundai m350 with centrino 1.4ghz, firewire, wlan and the lot.

the problem is that when it gets into the installation screen of mandrake 9.2 it hangs when scans for ohci 1394/ firewire stuff. The same thing also happens when i try to install red hat 9.

when i use knoppix it also hangs at boot-up at some command line beginning with "modprobe.."

Please advise

have you tried passing the kernel parameter nofirewire to see if that works? this is not an ideal solution but may get past this particular error message.

When installing Mandrake a screen appears saying hit enter to install or F1 for more options. Hit F1 and then at the prompt type "linux nofirewire" and any other options that may be necessary (eg linux nofirewire nousb acpi=off... etc.).

I have never installed knoppix but I imagine that the procedure is similar. When you find the set of parameters that work for you, you can add them to /etc/lilo.conf (if you use lilo, otherwise I'm not sure how to proceed).
