Im trying to use this guide: www.clanbv.org/public/axim.html to install linux on my dell axim. I have a 8 in 1 sandisk reader that Im using to read the SD card, this part:
Quote:
# Make two partitions on the CF card. The first partition should be 5 Meg the second should be all the rest of the card.
# Put a vfat filesysttem on the first partition and an ext2 filesystem on the second. I will refer to these partitions as the dos partition and the ext2 partition from now on.
I dont know how to do, how can I make two partitions like it says on the SD card? Im running Knoppix.
Ok, I'm trying to do this also. I'm using an SD card, with a PCMCIA adapter. I can mount the sd card just fine, and I can also partition it just fine, but the trouble is.... I don't know how to mount a partition on the SD card. BTW, the new link is: http://www.clanbv.org/public/save/axim.html
If anyone can help me with this...
Ok, I got this to work, but when I execute the "loadlinux" program on my pocket pc, all I get is an application that's called "tester1" and says "Hello world!" in the middle of the window. I'm not the only one that has experienced this. http://www.lerhaupt.com/foo/archives/000099.html
The last comment on this blog is the same exact thing that's happening to me. HELP PLEASE??
Knoppix should include a program called "qtparted". It is very easy to use partitioning program. You can also try "cfdisk" - it should also be included. As the last resort use "fdisk". It as good as the two other but harder to use.
You will have to start "cfdisk" and "fdisk" from a Xterm or from the console. Also make sure you are using the "root" account (superuser) in all these steps.
After partitioning you will have to format the partitions. These will help:
man mkfs
man mkfs.ext2
man mkfs.vfat
Then you should be able to mount the drives with following command:
mount -t vfat /dev/sdaX /yourmountpoint1
mount -t ext2 /dev/sdaX /yourmountpoint2
Replace X with appropriate number (check with "cat /proc/partitions" or from abovementioned programs).
Note: the /yourmountpointX is a directory and it has to be present for the mounting to work. So create it if you don't already have it:
