I am considering to purchase Acer Travelmate 8103 notebook and install one of the Debian-related distributions. I know from another forum that Ubuntu could be installed successfully with most of the things working. Do You know sth about incompability of Acer Travelmate 8103 with different Linux distributions?
Well, I use Travelmate TM350 and the only problem was a Winmodem which never worked under linux, but the rest if fine.
If you don't use it....
I use Kubuntu and everything is autodetected perfectly (excpt modem!).
Distribution: Still deciding - presently just got hold of Suse 9.1. Intending to get Slackware 10.1

some acer laptops seem to work fine with Suse 9.3 linux :)
Hello
I have the privilege to install Suse9.3 into some of the Acer laptops - want to intro linux to my friends ;p
so far installation is a breeze and everything is detected, except those ATI drivers & wireless which have to manually configure. modem and etc are auto-detected! even suspend works!
kinda happy with Suse9.3, but one word of caution, since i m still a super newbie and i think you are, too, please do NOT do any YOU updates as this will cause you nightmares! ;p
I heard that 3D acceleration might not work since ATI Mobility Radeon X700 is not really compatible with linux. But I am not sure, perhaps the problem has been solved already.

Hello Kosa,
I'm running Mandriva 2006 December Club Edition on my Acer TravelMate 8103 with ATI Mobility Radeon X700 and the 3d acceleration works. It was not directly, I had to install the packages ati-xorg-8.20.8-2.1.20060plf, dkms-ati-8.20.8-2.1.20060plf and kernel-source-2.6-2.6.12-12mdk and run XFdrake.
Dunno how about that Acer TM of yours, but mine is Acer TM 4152LMi and i never got my dvdrom working in ubuntu(tried 5.04, 5.10)... but you should be fine with debian.
I have a Travelmate 2413LM and everything works fine with Suse 10. I have no use for the built in modem so I have never tried although its recognised by the system.
i am having acer 8103 and everytime i insert the bootable dvd of 9.1 ,9.2 10.01 suse the loader works fine until i choose the option to install the linux where the loader and the laptop stucks...i have only installed slackware but i want a suse version.i have used the same dvd on 3 desktop pcs and it works fine.
