Linux debian on hp pavilion dv5 1130 -ek

hi every body,

i want to install debian on my hp pavilion dv5 1130-ek , but the trouble is i'm not sure if my laptop will be stable after the installation because :

1-the first time i've tried to install it with vista in dual boot , i was oblige to format the system after 2 months: "Grub" was not stable with my BIOS (it has bugs). i've flashed my bios but always hp doesn't correct her problem with this category , also bios is limited in its parameters.

2-debian lenny (latest version) during installation and booting it prints an error : FAiled to allocate mem ressource 0*000 .. (some thing like this).

3-i think that it has damaged my HDD , so im actually oblige to change it. either linux or the dual boot?!

So please i need help , i prefer linux as an OS . help me if there is a tool to test compatibilty for example?

Thanks in advance.

First thing I'd check for it some bios anti virus protection and nobble/disable it.

There are checks dating from early boot viruses which simply prevent the boot sector being overwritten. It's a good idea for grub to rewrite boot sector, as it has to to insert itself. It's a bad idea in windows, because you kinda get flushed down your own jacks by a virus if it manages to rewrite the boot sector.
