Unhappy Linux booting problem

Leaving the Linux partition untouched on my drive I decided to reinstall Windows XP this time using the FAT filesystem. The whole installation went great but I no longer have the option of booting Linux. Only Windows will start. How can I get my computer to realize that Linux is an option? I wish to have Linux as my primary operating system.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Paul

Windows rewrote its bootloader to the MBR.
Which distro are you running? What bootloader did you install?

Most CD distros have a rescue mode you can select if you boot the 1st install disk. Once booted some have a menu option that includes restoring the bootloader.

Bootloader

I am not sure if I am running a distro (not quite sure what it is, sorry). I did not install a bootloader. Last time when I first installed Windows then linux a bootloader was automatically installed. Unless you have any other recommendations I will probably have to find the 1st install disk.

Thanks for you help

distro shorthand for distribution i.e Redhat, Mandrake, SuSE etc..
It provides useful info because Redhat uses grub and Mandrake uses lilo as the default bootloader.

Unless you created a boot floppy disk during the install using the 1st disk is the easiest to restoring the bootloader.

I tried booting with the 1 install disk, but I found no menu option that included restoring the bootloader. The only thing the CD wanted was to install it all over again. Whilst in on the setup I saw that the installation program (anaconda) recognized my drives.

Is there something that I can download and install under windows which will once again allow me to boot windows?

Thanks
