Linpus Linux on my travelmate 2423 is giving me problems!

I just bought an acer travelmate 2423 that came with Linpus Linux. however, even though linpus should come with a GUI, all i see are command lines

I tried booting up PCLinuxOS livecd but after i put in my cd, but nothing happens

how do i boot a livecd from linux?
I wanna uninstall Linpus and install some other distribution(like Mandriva). How can I do that? (btw, i have Grub but i dont know how to use it)

Booting a live CD has nothing to do with GNU/Linux. If your system supports it, there is an option in your BIOS to boot from CD.

When you get to a shell prompt, try typing in 'startx', hit enter, and see if that gets you in to X.
