Lenovo Thinkpad - Cannot Access Bios After Rescataux Boot-Repair
N00b here. Installed Linux Mint on my lenovo thinkpad T420 a few days ago but could not boot into it. Eventually tried using Rescataux Beta on a usb. First I used the easy UEFI repair, which didn't work, so next I tried boot-repair. This worked, I could get into linux.
However, now I can't get into the bios, it just displays a black screen when I press F1 during loading. I tried doing a bios update and this didn't resolve the problem. I have no idea about what boot-repair does so I don't know where to look for a fix.
I don't know what log info would be useful to share to help, but as I can't boot from USB, I can't get the logs from Rescataux (if there are any on there). However, here's the info from dmidecode.
Code:
# dmidecode 3.0

Not sure what is going on. They have a bootable usb image to maybe assist to repair the bios if all else fails. (all else)
UEFI is a configurable bios in some ways. http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/downloads/ds030861
Don't think I've seen other reports exactly like that.
It happens on windows whey they do some start up shutdown tricks. Prevents one from changing the next boot.
Have you tried removing both the power supply and the battery and then holding down the start button for a good thirty seconds, perhaps more than once?
Did everything transpire smoothly and as expected when you upgraded the BIOS?
@thorkelljarl - tried twice to remove the battery, and hold the power button, still no success. BIOS seemed to upgrade fine during the process.
@Ztcoracat - yes, before I did boot repair, I could get into BIOS. I don't think the upgrade affected my access to BIOS, I think the boot repair was what caused it. Checked right make and model before BIOS update and process was fine. The model is t420 in your second link with i5-2520m cpu, see below for hardware. i think reinstalling / repairing GRUB might be a way forward, I can't see what else to look at. I've tried a few tutorials but found some methods worked better than others... Can you recommend a good tutorial?
@jefro - about to have a look at the bootable USB... will post updates soon.

Rep:
I sounds like you might have damaged part of the area where the UEFI (bios) settings reside. You would need to send the machine to the manufacturer to have that repaired.
