kernel compilation fails hard

hello,

if i follow either this instrucitons : http://www.falkotimme.com/howtos/deb...el2.6_compile/

or these :
# cd /usr/src
# wget http://kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/v...6.13.1.tar.bz2
# tar xjvf linux-2.6.13.1.tar.bz2
# ln -s linux-2.6.13.1 linux
# cd linux
# make menuconfig
# make-kpkg clean
# make-kpkg --revision=nom_de_machine.num_version kernel_image
make-kpkg makes my computer to shut down instantly ...

and it's debian on a Toshiba P30-135 ...
