How did you partitioned your disk? Can you describe a little more the partitions on your disk, because obviously, your system is unable to mount your /.

You can also try to boot with the CD and type linux rescue or boot in failsafe mode to try mounting manually your root partition.

I partitioned my 80 gig HDD for dual boot using QTPART on a Knoppix bootable DVD.
about 40 gigs were kept for Windoze and 35 gigs were alloted for LINUX. A gig was left (FAT16) for swap- file area , I believe it's called. Windoze still works fine.

PARTITION TYPE STATUS SIZE USED START END

01 UNIONFS/DEV/HDA1 NTFS ACTIVE 39.37 GB 14. GIG
02 UNIONFS/DEV/HDA1 FREE HIDDEN 5.85 GB NA
03 UNIONFS/DEV/HDA2 EXTENDED 29.30 GB NA

04 UNIONFS/DEV/HDA5 LINUX SWAP 1.07 GB 0.03
05 UNIONFS/DEV/HDA6 EXT3 20.23GB 3.35GB

I can fill in the "Start and end" figures if you need them...
Thanks in advance.

I've installed LE2005 on a couple of machines, I use a windows partition tool to leave some free space on the discs. I have had problems with windows when I change windows partitions from within linux (using mandrake tools on NTFS file system).

I then install LE2005 and tell it to use the free space , I have never had any problems with LE2005 on my laptop or desktop pcs when installed in this way.

did you create the ext3 and swop partitions before installing LE2005 ? if so try creating free space only and install Le2005 again
