IDE resets,.. on Acer Aspire 5620..what distro can you advice
Hi,
I have just bought a Acer Aspire 5620. Since the preinstalled Windows XP sucks big time, I formatted my hdd-bad me, as my Linuxii all failed to run there so far.
Anyways, the most common error situation I saw so far were:
x)All kinds of bickering about IDE timeouts
x)At startup, failure to "get pci memory from bridge"
x)TickTick over sound output
What distribution can you advise me to get my box partying(with WLAN??).
Sorry for the noobish question, but I am very new...
System specs:
Acer Aspire 5620
Centrino Duo 1,66GhZ
ATI X1300
WXGA screen
Fast ethernet
WLAN system
I basically know how to use Windows(pretty well, I dare to say). However, installing Linux was a quickshot reaction because I was so pissed about how the Windows was all clogged up by Acer with hundreds of apps nobody ever needs.
You can always uninstall programs from XP you dont use or want. At least you have a working lappy. The technology in lappys is changing so rapidly that research is often needed to get good linux install. Scan linux-on-laptops or tuxmobile sites for successful linux installation notes on your lappy model, or smilar one with same or like motherboard. Tuxmobile may have BIOS or ACPI/APM note on your lappy model. Acer site may have BIOS notes or updates for that lappy. Hope your next install is easier
