IBM Thinkpad 570E battery status problem in FC4

I just replaced the battery in my old clunker 570E laptop and the battery status icon (which worked fine with my old battery) now tells me that I am "running on AC power. No battery present:. The battery is indeed functional as my laptop works fine even when it's NOT plugged in. I've check IBM's site for any possible BIOS upgrades, but none are available. Any other thoughts about what I should try to get this working, as it is somewhat irritating to not know how much charge I have left?!! Thanks!
