I just bought another wireless card(TEW-441PC) and I am unable to get it functioning

Any help whatsoever is appreciated.

I just put in a PCMCIA TRENDnet TEW-441PC Card into my Ubuntu laptop and it won't connect to the Netgear router at my house or my friends place. I completely disabled any wireless network security on both routers and there is still no connection. Ubuntu installed this after inserting the card:
linux-restricted-modules-2.6.20-15-generic

Since it didn't work I uninstalled it and tried this instead:
linux-restricted-modules-2.6.20-16-386

And it still doesn't work. Does anyone have any ideas. I bought this card because it was listed on the madwifi website as being able to work. Is there any hope...?

Thanks.

I don't have any experience with that network card, but I purchased a hawking HWU54G from newegg and it just works with ubuntu 7.04 . It is a usb wireless device and I'm loving it. Maybe not the response you are looking for, but thought it might help.

It is very important with Linux to know the chipset used in the wireless card you are using. Some cards work well, and others are complete junk (Broadcom in my opinion). Knowing the chipset used will help you get the correct driver to get the card working.

Type /sbin/lspci in a terminal window and you should see the major components identified with their chipset vendor.

If the card is not supported natively under Linux, you might be able to get it working with ndiswrapper, which allows you to use the Windows driver under linux. This should be considered if you cannot get a native Linux driver to work. There is a LOT of info on ndiswrapper all over the net.

Give us the wireless card's chipset info and I am sure someone will be able to point you in the right direction.

It appears that it may be an Atheros chipset card. If so, you will need to install madwifi.
