I see you've marked this as solved, papasita. I was just about to comment that I'm not convinced your computer is no longer viable. It's simply not booting right now.
I think what's happening here is that the laptop is expecting a bootable drive and is not finding one. That blinking white "cursor" in the upper left hand corner of the screen is usually indicative of that condition, in my experience. Either the USB drive is corrupted / not bootable or there is something wrong with how the BIOS is configured.
If you're still interested in troubleshooting this, could you try booting another computer with the USB drive to eliminate the possibility that it is at fault ?
