Hi. For those in the know, Orca is a screen reader/magnifier that enables accessibility for low vision and blind to use the computer. It has a built-in text-to-speech synthesizer.
With that out of the way, I have a question.
Okay, so I'm considering getting an
HP Mini 1000 Mi Edition Netbook. I really like the graphical interface and I thought I'd like to have text-to-speech.
Is the graphical user interface in HP Mini 1000 Mi Edition compatible with Orca?
I know that when I start Orca for the first time, it's going to bring up a command-line interface, which brings me to this question: Why is the Linux command-line interface disabled (besides making it very easy for newbies who've never tried Linux)?
I do have an HP Notebook Pavilion zv6130us, which I've purchased it around October of 2005 and I'm not expecting my netbook to breath new life since my fans can be quite noisy. I usually do music creation with my laptop and plan to sacrifice it when I get rid of my laptop (and no I'm not planning to burn music to CD). I do have a MiniSD card for storing music, though. Of course, I can turn off Orca to increase performance and connect an external display to a netbook.
I'm open-minded, though, so if anybody does not recommend HP Mini 1000 Mi Edition, I'd like to know why, since I've been searching for Netbooks for less than $300 and I'm looking to choose something that's right for me, whether I can do music creation in a netbook or not.
Update: I've just found out that the command line can be accessed by pressing Alt+F2 and by typing "gnome-terminal" and run it. Here's the source:

Update: Orca for GNOME is not in the repository.
I'm going with a different netbook, as Orca is not available in the repository.
