how to turn off pcmcia

I'm running redhat9 on an HP ze4145.

on bootup, the computer currently starts the pcmcia. as long as the ethernet cable is not plugged into my internal ethernet port AND no pcmcia card is present, the computer boots without a problem. once booted, i plug in the ethernet cable and activate it, and everything works fine.

if an ethernet cable is plugged in, however, the "starting pcmcia" message hangs indefinitely on boot up.

i'm sure there is a way to turn off my pcmcia device. infact, i never use it. i wouldn't mind if i had to turn it off for good.

any help on how to get past this problem is appreciated.

To permanently turn it off:
Code:
chkconfig --level 0123456 pcmcia off
should do it. You can always manually start it with:
Code:
service pcmcia start
