Help! All of a sudden, am unable to log into any linux.

Hi!
I have a Acer Aspire 5100 laptop, with WinXP, Slackware 12.1, Ubuntu 8.10 and Mandriva 2009 Free installed. All of a sudden, I find that I am unable to log into any of the installed distros of Linux. During boot-up, Mandriva gives the following output -
Quote:
/etc/rc.d/rc : line 73 : /var/run/runlevel.dir : Read only filesystem
Cannot open log file /var/log/prcsys.log
Cannot create temporary file
.....
.....
critical temp reached (95 C), shutting down
This output is repeated until I switch off the laptop. Ubuntu and Slackware just shutdown after starting udev.

However, I am still able to log into Windows XP.

Any idea what is going on?

Thanking in advance,

You might see if you can boot up a live CD.

Did you do anything to this machine that you are aware of before you started having this problem?

Hi,
Thanks for the replies.
All of a sudden, without any sort of intervention on my part, my laptop is working. I am able to boot into all the delicious flavours of Linux, I have installed on it. What I think is, that one of the fans must be having some problem. I'll have to take my laptop to the service guys.
Thanks once again,
