Im trying to figure out what process keeps continously writing to my hard drives, not allowing them to ever go into standby mode. Below is what I've done thus far.
1.
#bdflush every 45 minutes nowm I guess I could make the buffer size larger
echo "50 500 0 0 270000 270000 80 50 0">/proc/sys/vm/bdflush
2. Proceeded each option with a dash in syslog to prevent sync with each log write.
# Log all kernel messages to the console.
# Logging much else clutters up the screen.
#kern.* -/dev/console
# Log anything (except mail) of level info or higher.
# Don't log private authentication messages!
*.info;mail.none;authpriv.none;cron.none -/var/log/messages
Swap space shouldn't be an issue when idle I would think. Plus it wouldn't matter anyway, Im using 0% of it right now and the hard drive is stil dumping something about every second. Any ideas. I guess my next line of action would be try to figure out the culprid process by looking at the process stats.
more /proc/version
Linux version 2.4.20-31.9 (bhcompile@daffy.perf.redhat.com) (gcc version 3.2.2 20030222 (Red Hat Linux 3.2.2-5)) #1 Tue Apr 13 18:04:23 EDT 2004
AND SOMETIMES
custom 2.4.24
apm -v
APM BIOS 1.2 (kernel driver 1.16)
AC on-line, no system battery
Here's a listing of processes, does anyone look familar to anyone that writes to logs, ect... I might have to end up going though each one to find the culprit.
