Getting APM to work with Knoppix 3.3

Have Knoppix 3.3 on a Avertec laptop and it runs great.

Only problem is that the laptop gets very hot when using it. I've enabled apm with the kernel, and it starts up automatically as well.

How do I know that apm is doing its job? The laptop still gets very hot.

Also, I've installed an app,

WMAMP a doc app, to monitor the power, but the output doesn't look right.

Any input on this?

thanks
