Gentoo installation locks up

I'm having a little problem (in a bit of a pickle) while installing gentoo on my laptop

When loading modules the process scanns for storages (hardrives, usb storages etc.)... but when it comes to scanning for "ohci-hcd" the laptop locks up (nothing happens)

This is probably the laptops fault (but I don't know how it could be)... is there a way to get around scanning for this "ohci-hcd"... since the laptop always locks up scanning for it...

For a better understanding for me... can someone tell me what "ohci-hcd" is?

I don't know what you experts would like to know in order to understand why this happens, so just ask...

Thanks....

ohc-hcdi and uhc-hcdi are USB related things. Don't actually know, what they, mean, but I believe they are protocols. So check out the kernel options when booting gento installation. Press F2 (I think), there will be an option nousb or something like it. Use that, and boot the installation.

Thanks, I had actually managed to find out that "ohci-hcd" had something to do with USB, but I was afraid of booting gentoo with no usb... Well I did and it helped, I'm installing (bootstraping... man that takes hours and hours) as I'm writing this...

What I want to know now is does this mean that there will be no support for USB in the kernel at the end (I'll probably be able to choose it when configuring the kernel but I'm just wondering since I haven't gotten to the kernel part of the installation)... and if there isn't how can I fix it after installing the system?

Again... thanks

Don't worry. The kernel you are using now is not the kernel you will be using later. In the end of the installation you will install a new kernel, for which you will set attributes as you see them fit. That means, you will have USB support if you wish it . I know it takes a long time to bootstrap, but so do some other things. I am installing Gento 2004.3 as I speak too...
