Question Fuzzy fan behaviour in Vaio FX701 - Mandrake 9.2

Hi all fellow linux-on-laptop users,

I have been installing and playing with linux Mandrake 9.2 on a VaioFX701 in the last few day. I am writing a page with the experience to post to linux-laptop, if you want to see it a draft is online at (...well, linuxquestions would not let me post the URL. If you want it simply ask).

The question is easy: the fan is programmed to go on at 50ºC (and it works: a BIOS thing?), but it seems it has no hysteresis cycle: when the CPU reach the threshold temperature, the fan goes on, and if the vaio is idle, it goes off in a handful of seconds. To start again in a short time. And so on. I do not think this is nice to the fan, really. There is no fan control in /proc/acpi/.../fan/, so I do not know how to solve the problem. I have upgraded the BIOS to the last available one in linux-vaio Sony page.

Anyone knows if this is correctable?

Thanks!
