Sharp uses Linux on their Zaurus PDAs:

You might be able to check other PDA's CPUs against this page:

Just about all the Palm PDAs will interface with Linux through JPilot or KPilot...

I've had more success with JPilot,... Just pointing it to the USB or RS-232 device where I have (or had for the RS-232 cradle for the m105) the cradle installed.

You generally need a card reader for any expansion cards, as cards aren't supported yet in JPilot.

Zaurus?

I recommend a palm device, it is well supported under linux (sharp has stopped its development for zaurus until the next pda release, and it does not support linux desktops(!))

The zaurus is fun, I've got one and I love it, but it is totally useless, if you want to have a useful pda it must be light, have proper battery-life, be easy to use.

Buy a palm tungsten e, its lighter and efficient (no power draining processor), better yet, buy a monochrome device like the vx, two weeks of battery life, powerful enough to play tetris

What do u mean that the Zaurus is useless?
I want a small pda with low-power consumption... for keeping easily notes..... viewing and editing my calendar.... and synchronize it with my Linux Os.
If i can't read and pda's it will bew very useful....
Ans i also need low price..because i am a poor guy

I don't know about Sharp stopping their development, seems like I just heard about the new Sharp (the 6kZ) being rolled out in the US.

Not to mention that the Japanese have had what? three (or more?) Japan-only models introduced in the last couple of years. Not cheap to import, but very, very, nice.

And as for development:

5500 updated ROM Version: 3.10, 5/8/2003
5600 updated ROM Version: 1.32, 8/1/2003
http://www.myzaurus.com/downloadsInter.asp

Gee, what? A whole year ago? How often do the other PDA manufacturer's update? And is it free?

Not to mention the OpenZaurus guys:

http://openzaurus.org/oz_website/content/news

Or the Kompany:

http://www.thekompany.com/home/

Oh and look, a 5600 Z for $267. Quite a bit more horsepower than a Palm too.

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/AS...697635-9164629

I will agree about connecting (syncing) within linux. It won't sync with linux and this sucks. I get around this by simply backing up my CF card. Hardly a sync, but it's better than nothing.

As for battery life, it isn't bad if you carry a second battery around with you

And hardly useless. Sharp does update it's OS, you just have to check in and look from time-to-time.

As for the Tungsten e, I'm unimpressed. Looks like a color version of the old, tired, Palm. Not that the Z will win any beauty contests...

However, this one would:

http://www.pdabuyersguide.com/sharp_zaurus_C860.htm

So do some checking around, the Palm is fine for keeping notes and such. I like the Z because of the extra power, flexibility, and geekiness of it. But you are the one who is going to have to live with it so do your homework.

Before I bought my first PDA (back then it was either Newtons or Palms), I borrowed a Palm from a friend for the weekend to try it out. Ended up buying the Newton (MP2K) and loved it.

thx guys

I really appreciate all your replies....
My problem is that i was born and still i am....
I have found this pda
http://www.epinions.com/Sharp_Mobilo...ay_~full_specs
which is at 150euros (euro is equal to dollar)

It is possible to make it work with Linux?
Is it possible to synchronize it with my Suse,Fedora or Mandrake?
Can i view my pdf files??

At the same price 150 euros... ia have found and these one. Which do u think that works better for me?
http://www.palmone.com/us/support/m505/

I think the first one because it has a nice small keyboard...for keeping fast notes.
Btw is it easier and faster to write with stylus or with a tiny keyboard? I suggest the second one
