Unhappy fans not coming on dell inspiron 2500

I have recently installed Fedora Core 1 on my inspiron 2500. System specs are:

celeron 900
256mb SDRAM
40gb IBM HDD
3com miniPCI LAN/modem (no modem driver :-/ )
Linksys WPC11 ver3 PCMCIA

and everything works GREAT under fedora. Except. . . . my fans won't come on and my machine gets REAL hot. Of course, I have gotten so I barely use it for fear of burning the CPU out. I have acpi loaded, and it seems to work fine, Battery meter is working and seems accurate, machine powers itself off, etc. Pcmcia works great, wireless is reliable with good range, graphics look as good as you can hope from the stock intel i810 chipset. Even sound works.

The fans do come on for a minute or so after a while. . .though its too little, too late. I think the BIOS is turning it (just one fan turns, the processor fan, I think) to protect the hardware, as the system slows wayyyyy down when this happens. When I take my linksys card out after even a few minutes, it is almost too hot to touch, and I am really afraid of burning this card out as they are almost impossible to find anymore. The fans worked properly under WindowsXP, and when I just boot into the bios and leave it there for a while, the fans seem to act normal. Even with all of this, the second fan never comes on, but I think its just because it has never been needed before. I don't know what information to post, but if anyone needs more info, just ask.

Everything is working so great under Fedora other than this that I don't want to give up on it. My desktop is running FC2 beautifully. . .I switched so I could stop pirating and just go open source.

Thank you very much for any help you can render.
