extracting ramdisk

hi all,

I created a ramdisk, say ramdisk.gz. How do i extract it on my host and modify some of it contents again. A gzip -dv ramdisk.gz just gave an image with no .gz extension.

found it myself

gunzip ramdisk.gz
mount -o loop ramdisk tmp/initrd

cd tm/initrd

now see the contents of ramdisk by listing the files (ls).
