has anybody had any luck getting linux to work properly on their m5310/m5305.
my experience installing it is that the only things that do work are sound, video, usb. i have not been able to get acpi, the integrated wireless, or video(need to disable acceleration)
I got mandrake on my emachine. Need to get ACPI working. I dont think the wireless card is gonna work. Broadcom is not very Linux friendly. Check this Thread out
that acpi is my main problem...do you think that 2.6 kernel might fix the problems, i was unable to get anything working with 2.4 and because the processor was always running at 1800 i only got like 1 hour 20 mins battery life
with mandrake it says acpi is partially installed. Shall try to get it running and let you know about the results. Else I think upgrading to 2.6 will do good.
Tried to get ACPi working, but couldnt get it to work. Think I will switch to 2.6 kernel. I dont think it will be that unstable. How about you? Also think I am gonna change my distro to Redhat. More comfortable with that. So here comes an overhaul of my system. Hey btw did you get USB 2.0 working?
Cheers
um, i know that the usb works by default with redhat and mandrake but i dont know about it being 2.0. i just tried to use a usb mouse.
tomorrow im going to repartition again and try installing the latest redhat fedora beta, and updateing that with the 2.6 kernel. im hoping to see some improvement with that.
*update*
i downloaded test2 of the fedora beta over the weekend and i just found out test3 got released today so im a little mad cause itll take 4 hours to download that.

Well I just got severn. ANd guess what? I got lucky, I decided to download it the day the beta3 was released . ... how is ur acpi going? Also a USB mouse will work but it is still not USB 2.0 enabled. I think u need to recompile the kernel for that. My suggestion is that when u are recompiling, u might as well do so along with USB 2.0 patch too. In case u have already recompiled, could u pass on a few pointers. Right now am looking at the sticky. And my download took an hr... thanks to my school connection.. at least a reason to go back to school
Hey in case u are close to Phoenix I could mail u the CD's ...i.e if u dont wanna download those things again ...severn looks nice ... I like the look though I dont understand why they cant build ACPI into. I like the display management feature. Iguess I can finally use the multiple desktop feature without much hassle.. Lemme know how the install goes
ok, i got severn installed and heres what i noticed....the display works correctly without acceleration needing to be disabled.
and i downloaded and tried to install the 2.6 kernel and while i was configuring it i noticed a bunch of new options for powernow funcitonality for the athlon which would greatly improve our battery life. it did have more acpi options but i could not get the kernel compiled completely to check, will try again tonight
awesome. if we can get the broadcom wireless working that will be great. Anyway do tell me this
1. Did u install the drivers for the ATI Radeon or is it ok to go with what came with severn. I notice that there are some drivers available and there seems to be a thread dedicated to installing those drivers
2. Can you give me the exact link for the kernel 2.6. I am not too great at recompiling a kernel. Never done it b4, so all help is appreciated..
Cheers
Ok I recompiled my kernel. Encountered a few problems though
1. My touch pad that used to work fine b4 is not working anymore. This could be attributed to the fact that I chose to install the driver for the touchpad. I had problems with this driver earlier too. If you know how to revert back to the old driver, please do let me know
2. My sound isnt working anymore. Shall check that right now
3. ACPi seems to be working. At least it displays the amt of battery left
4. I dont know why but my Cd drive is continuously being accessed. Need to check this
How did ur compile go?
edit
I need to install the trident drivers. ACPI isnt working fully. Only the battery status is being displayed. Otherwise none of the standby, hibernate etc modes are working. Plus the Cd drive being read in teh absence of a CD is driving me nuts. It sgives that odd whining noise..
